I think it happens to most of us - we wake up one day wanting some answers, dammit.  Why are we here?  What am I really supposed to be doing?  Have I made the right choices?  Is this all?  No longer are we content to just go through the motions of life, especially if we aren't particularly happy with where we're at when the quandary strikes.

My period of questioning struck a few short years ago which I now lovingly refer to as my crunchy years.  Oooh, yes.  I got real busy stripping back the proverbial layers to try to find meaning.  I turned to gurus, meditation, yoga, mudras, aromatherapy, mantras, Chakra alignment, Eastern philosophy, holistic therapy, and energy healing.  I was an eager student in Cultivating Compassion 101.  I learned how to holistically minimize stress. I became aware of my and my family's carbon footprint.  I developed a conscience about the environment.  I found my answers alright.

Ahem ... much to Oliver's relief, I have pretty much given up my crunchy ways  - juice fasts, brown rice, hairy pits and patchouli be damned.  But, I have integrated many of the principles and practices learned during that time into my modern lifestyle - like using essential oils to make my own cleaning products and for practicing aromatherapy to promote a sense a calm and well-being. 

So I was particularly thrilled when I found this smart, portable aromatherapy diffuser (by Aura Cacia) for my car while at For The Health Of It natural food store in Blue Mountain Beach.  Don't let the phallic shape throw you off - it's the coolest thing!  You put a few drops of essential oil on a little pad of cotton which slides into the diffuser and when you plug the diffuser into the cigarette lighter, it warms the oil up like a regular diffuser!   Because of the small space, your car becomes an aromatherapy pod.   It. Is. Awesome!

The icing on the cake is that it is really not that expensive, making it a great gift for not only yourself, but for friends and family who need a bit of chill time themselves.  The diffuser itself retails for $9.39 and it comes with 3 cotton refill pads (a set of 10 refill pads retail for $3.99).  The essential oils range in price but I have yet to spend over $10 on one vial (I recommend Lavender!).  At around $15-20, it's the kind of gift that keeps on giving.

Hey Susan!

My main homemade product is: Bottle of Seventh Generation Free & Clear Natural All Purpose Cleaner (from Publix) mixed with 10 drops each of following essential oils (Aura Cacia brand from For The Health of It) - Lavender, Eucalyptus, Rosemary. I did put about 5 drops of Tea Tree Oil in this time as well for that extra punch of antibacterial help. The Eucalyptus and Rosemary (and Tea Tree) have antibacterial properties.

I don't think anything works as well as bleach for diaper pails and potty-training, though?! You may want to google that one :)

I'd love to read a post where you share your mix for natural home cleaners. I'm VERY interested in this, but want to ensure that I'm able to kill the germs that come with diaper pails and potty-training.
